First we gathered reference shots from multiple angles of the character model that were combined and scaled to fit our model. We created a full-sized mockup from construction paper that was further adjusted for fit. The mockup was cut apart into pattern pieces that were used to create the armor sections out of eva foam. The foam pieces were joined together with contact cement and hot glue. We used a laminated construction style to add additional texturized pieces on to the base structure. LED strips were employed along with translucent light diffusing materials. The armor was then sealed and painted. Paint was done in multiple thin layers. Additional detailing was added, including braided cords and faux fur accents. We constructed a wig and tail section out of a combination of upholstery foam and faux fur. The faux fur for the wig was first made into conical sections as to achieve volume and the armor’s specific aesthetic. A micro controller and battery pack power the electronics in the costume. Additional under suit elements were tailored/sewn using costume fabric.
