Knit the Rainbow (KtR) was founded in April, 2020 after the Founder, Austin Rivers, discovered the housing disparities facing LGBTQ+ youth in New York City. Austin learned there were a few nonprofits dedicated to providing housing and/or shelter for this community; however, he knew there was still more to be done; this is where KtR was born.
KtR hopes to educate people across the country about the housing crisis these youth are facing and increase the number of youth served by asking volunteers to knit or crochet at home and donate the garments to KtR to be distributed in New York City and Chicago. Learn More

Welcome Blanket is a platform for engagement that transforms the abstract concept of immigration into a tangible crowd-sourced artistic action.
All handcraft makers are invited to make Welcome Blankets. They include notecards with stories important to their families about immigration/migration/relocation to create symbolic and practical gifts of welcome for new refugees coming to the United States. These gifts are collected, catalogued, and displayed at art institutions and exhibitions.
During these exhibits, Welcome Blanket create spaces to amplify the message of welcome by hosting craft circles, performances, discussions, forums, and legal assistance for immigrants. After each showโs close, their 30+ partner refugee resettlement groups present these tangible gifts of welcome to our newest neighbors. Learn More

Founded during the Vietnam War, Heal Vets supplies craft therapy kits free of charge to active duty military and veterans and is the nationโs leader in using craft therapy. Learn More

Sue Hunter and Karima Sundarji began the collaboration for the Straphangers Lounge while standing on a New York City subway platform admiring the mosaic tile signs. The women found it thrilling to see this ancient technique continued in new subway platform designs.
Realizing the graphic quality of subway signs and the square motif of the mosaic tiles directly relate to knitting graphs, they began to ideate. Rendering the mosaics in a textile format evolved into the idea of recreating the subway in textiles as a reading and knitting space, and the Straphangers Lounge emerged. With the Straphangers Lounge project, they created a textile installation of a New York City subway car and platform. Learn More

Global Quilt Connection was founded in response to the shutdown of the travel teaching industry in 2020. It began with a few zoom webinars, introducing teachers who were ready to jump on the rickety virtual bandwagon, to quilt guilds around the world.
Since then Global Quilt Connection has evolved into the premier resources for Quilt Guilds to find virtual programming. Learn More
The idea for Loose Ends came about when the founders, Jennifer Simonic and Masey Kaplan, both avid knitters, realized they had a shared experience: Friends would often ask them to finish blankets, sweaters, or other projects left undone by deceased loved ones. They always do so enthusiastically, understanding what it feels like to wear something a loved one has made. Learn More
Quilts for Kids (QFK) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming fabrics into patchwork quilts to comfort children facing serious illness, trauma, abuse and natural disasters.
Their goal continues to be donating over 30,000 quilts yearly and supplying children in need with other much-needed items. With the support of volunteers through chapters, Quilts for Kids has touched the lives of tens of thousands of children yearly. Learn More
